“The Puppini Sisters” live @ Circolo degli Artisti – Rome

img_5816

The Puppini Sisters are a musical trio specializing in 1940s-style close harmony vocal music. The group has been described as part of Retro’s futuristic vanguard and their sound described as swing-punk due to its being louder and more in your face than traditional swing music. The group has sought to be associated with a burlesque revival.

The members are italian Marcella Puppini and english Stephaie O’Brien and Kate Mullins. Although the three are not related, they chose their name in tribute to The Andrews Sisters. Puppini first studied fashion design at St. Marins School of Art, and later music at Trinity College of Music where she met Stephanie O’Brien and Kate Mullins. The Puppini Sisters are currently supported by a three-piece band featuring Blake Wilner on guitar, Pat Levett on drums/percussion and upright bassist Henrik Jensen. The group was founded by Marcella Puppini after she was inspired by the animated film Les Triplettes de Belleville (2003).

“The Urban Voodoo Machine” live @ Circolo degli Artisti – Rome

Rome, February the 4th, 2009

IN THE BEGINNING:
The stars were aligning in the skies the night Paul-Ronney Angel was begged by a promoter to be the filling in a triple bill sandwich. Never one to turn down a knees-up, P-R realised he had 48 hours to put a band together. No problem. Trawling the dives and doss houses of London, he called in some favours, cracked some whips, and so it was that The Urban Voodoo Machine was cranked into life. That was April 2003. Ever since then, this shadowy collective of ne’er-do-wells has been bringing the spirit of the carnie to London, sleazing around the capitals’ seediest joints, as well as hosting the now legendary parties attended by strippers, fire jugglers and degenerates.
